Why Gyms do NOT work!

Posted Sat, 25th Jun 2011

A recent survey carried out (woman’s health) showed that a massive 83% of people who use a gym are not happy with their results: of the 27% that are happy 25% of them see a personal trainer. So why does the gym not work?

Gyms can be a busy place, and you can never be 100% sure that what you are doing is the right thing. Or you can get set and stale with the same routine week in week out. When you see a personal trainer, the exercises that you do are varied, there are no thoughts of “what do I do next?”, ” is what I am doing helping me achieve what I want?” or "it wont matter if I don’t do the last set” etc etc

When a personal trainer is working for you, then they take the thought process out and make sure that you are always seeing some improvement. The exercise varies and new goals and targets are being set to keep you motivated.

In a gym you are left to your own devices and it is rare that an instructor will offer any real help or advice. The gyms rely on their customers not turning up, a personal trainer is completely the opposite!

Gyms can be very intimidating, so it is easy to just jump on the treadmill, x trainer etc and just plod it out for an hour. Best results are seen through resistance training, so you build some tone which will increase your metabolism. Weights are seen as a big no no for women, but they will get your far better results, results  that you can keep. Once you are confident in what you are doing then you may be able to take your new knowledge into the gym. This is another benefit of having a trainer in a private studio: the clue is in the title - it's private and you will have the full attention of your trainer. This will help you learn exercises quickly, and ensure that you are doing them in the most beneficial way.
